Some of our knowledge about the Oxbow community originates from the local newspaper that served the area in the late 1940s. Specifically, the Fairport-Herald Mail featured a dedicated section for Oxbow, publishing a new edition every Thursday. Bob Hartman, of 25 Oxbow Road, was the primary author of the Oxbow Briefs. The first time it was included in the paper was on June 19th, 1947, shown below:
Information for the Oxbow Brief was gathered by locals stopping by to tell Bob, or phoning in and reporting what news they had for that week.
The news that Bob gathered was then submitted and prepared for the printing of the paper on Thursday's.
Copies of the Fairport-Herald mail were available for purchase at the Oxbow Restaurant, a tavern down by the canal's edge.
